Located in the tranquil Odlinwood neighbourhood of Richmond, BC, the beloved playground on Shepherd Drive has been a gathering spot since the 1990s. Over the years, wear and age took their toll, prompting the City of Richmond to reimagine the space with community-driven inspiration. Through public consultation, the community’s feedback shaped a renewed vision for the park.
The city addressed several key concerns, including outdated play structures and accessibility challenges caused by pea gravel surfacing. Expansion limitations due to the surrounding concrete curb and pathway were also resolved. Local residents shared fond memories of the old playground while expressing excitement about the refresh and its potential to create new stories of play and connection.
The revitalized playground design reflects the community’s desire for natural materials and imaginative play experiences.
